Deciding Between Digital and Analogue Hearing Aids

While the marketers of digital hearing aids claim that their product is an improved, highly advanced version that will transform the way that you utilize such devices to assist your hearing impairment, there are merits and downsides to both digital devices and analogue aids. Based upon your personal preference, your budget, as well as the degree of your hearing loss, you can opt to choose between both types of aids as the most conducive to your hearing assistance needs.

While this was required of the wearer of an analogue aid, by utilizing the digital aids, you no longer need to do this as the device picks up the sounds to accurate precision. Instead of picking up all sounds equally, it will pick up background noise as background noise, and conversation sounds as conversation sounds. Thus, it is much more reliable and effective. However, the downside to the digital aid is the high absolute and relative cost compared to the analogue aids. It can often go for upwards of nearly double its analogue counterpart. For the superior quality of sound, many people argue that is it well worth the price hike.

While the analogue aid is inferior in quality of the sounds picked up and converted, it is significantly cheaper than the digital version; thus, many people opt to stick with these types of aids. Perhaps, their level of hearing impairment isn't nearly at a level that requires the precision of the digital device. Or perhaps, their budget simply cannot afford the digital version. Whatever is it, the quality of the analogue is not inferior, but only so in comparison to the digital version. It picks up sounds perfectly fine; however, it might require the extra effort on the part of the wearer to select the different programmable functions based upon their listening environment. Thus, it is difficult to say that the quality of the digital should sway you to the digital or that the price of the analogue should sway you towards the analogue. Rather, it is different for everyone based upon preference and budget.

Samsung?s F480 ? the Mobile Phone for the Elderly

Most of the Elderly have difficulty using a mobile phone because majority of them have either impaired eyesight or have difficulty hearing.  It is hard for them to make calls because the model of their mobile phone does not have an earpiece.  The elderly also find it difficult to text or write messages because most models manufactured by mobile phone companies use keypads for texting.  The old people really find it troublesome to use their phones.  They eventually do not use it or they just give it as a gift for somebody they know. 

                People who are old do not want to trouble themselves using any kind of model of mobile phones because they know that it would only frustrate them.  They do realize the importance of having a phone but they are discouraged due to past experiences.  I have a Grandmother who has the same kind of problem.  My mother and I are having difficulty convincing her to make use our mobile phone gift.  We do understand the reasons why she was reluctant because the model unit we gave her is not convenient for her to use.  She even wanted to return our gift because she has not use of it.  Back then, there was no model unit of phone that caters the needs of the elderly.  Nowadays, the technology is present.  Samsung’s F480 has features that would make it easier for adults to use it.  There is no need for a keypad to make messages or to send one.  It also has earphones which would enable you to hear clearly the voice of the caller.   This new advancement of phone technology is really beneficial for the elderly.  I would definitely buy this product as a gift for my Grandmother’s next birthday.

When You Have Hearing Loss Problems

Hearing loss affects more than 31.5 million Americans and two thirds of them are older than 55 and less than half ever seek treatment. In this case, impaired hearing can have a negative impact on your quality of life and so it is important that you be aware of hearing loss as you grow older. Here, she might also find hearing aids effective. Thanks to advances in design and technology, hearing aids have dramatically improved through the years. To find the most suitable kind, she should work with an audiologist.

Other things she could use are the assistive devices. When it comes to these, they work perfectly if you have less than perfect hearing. You will be using TV and radio listening systems, assistive listening devices, telephone amplifying devices, and alert products like flashing light doorbells and smoke detectors in this case.

There are times when the loss of hearing is severe and if so cochlear implant surgery can be done.
